The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has appointed Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Shogunle, to lead the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), Elections Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation, and the Safe School Protection Squad.

This was announced in a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Friday.

As part of efforts to enhance security and tackle crime along Nigeria’s inland waterways, CSP Chima Ogarashi has also been appointed as the new Force Marine Officer (FMO).

The statement described CP Shogunle as a highly experienced officer in operations, public relations, and various certified capacities.

“He will lead the SIS in tackling security challenges and serve as the head of Elections Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation, and the Safe School Protection Squad.”

CSP Ogarashi, now heading the FMO, will oversee one of the Force’s crucial divisions, bringing expertise in maritime security, policing, and law enforcement.

Adejobi noted that these appointments come as the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) prepares to deploy 25 newly acquired gunboats and expand its maritime security equipment to bolster safety across the nation’s waterways.

He emphasised that this strategic move reflects the NPF’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property while strengthening public confidence in maritime security.

The Inspector-General of Police reaffirmed the Force’s dedication to responding swiftly to security threats nationwide.
