Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has directed an investigation into the stampedes that occurred during food distribution events in Abuja and Anambra State.

The tragic incidents resulted in the deaths of at least ten people and left many injured at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama, Abuja. Similarly, three people lost their lives, and several others were injured during a philanthropic event in Okija, Anambra State.

Addressing the situation, IGP Egbetokun described negligence by those organizing such distributions as criminal.

During a press conference in Abuja on Saturday, Nigeria Police Force (NPF) spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi stated that the IGP has instructed police commissioners in the affected states to launch thorough investigations into the incidents.
