IGP Kayode Egbetokun warns police officers against criminal malpractice

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has strongly denounced any instances of extortion perpetrated by Nigerian Police officers and has issued a stern caution against the misuse or invocation of his name for such illicit purposes.

According to a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, this warning aligns with ongoing endeavors to uphold the utmost standards of integrity within the Nigeria Police Force.

“The IGP expressed deep concern, emphasising that such actions tarnish the reputation of his person and the Police Force, thereby eroding public trust,”  he said.

“The IGP emphasised that any officer found guilty of leveraging his name for fraudulent activities or extortion will face severe disciplinary measures.

“He then urged officers to uphold transparency and professionalism, reiterating that the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force is at stake if such is not checked.

Moreover, IGP Kayode Egbetokun urged the public to exercise vigilance and promptly report any instances where his name is exploited for fraudulent activities or extortion, particularly in the context of investigations.

He emphasized the vital role citizens play in collaboration with the police force to uphold high standards of behavior and eradicate corruption within the institution.

The IGP reiterated the Force’s dedication, under his leadership, to eradicate misconduct and uphold accountability across all levels.

He encouraged Nigerians to swiftly report any incidents of extortion or fraudulent behavior, furnishing comprehensive details to enable thorough investigations and subsequent severe penalties for officers found guilty of misconduct.
