IGP meets retired Officers over poor welfare

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, is currently holding a meeting with retired police officers protesting against their inclusion in the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

The meeting is underway at the Peacekeeping Hall within the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Earlier on Monday, a large group of retired officers—many elderly—gathered at the National Assembly, braving the rain while holding placards and chanting anti-government slogans. Their chief demand is to be removed from the CPS, which they argue offers inadequate post-service welfare.

A similar group also staged a protest at the Force Headquarters to press home the same demand.

Speaking directly to the demonstrators, IGP Egbetokun acknowledged their concerns and assured them that the welfare of retired personnel remains a priority. However, he explained that removing the Nigeria Police Force from the CPS is not a process that can be implemented immediately.

He cautioned protest leaders against spreading misinformation, urging them to remain patient and constructive. “The Force will not abandon its own,” Egbetokun assured.
