IGP orders investigation as Police flag 612 stolen vehicles in September
The Nigerian Police Force reported that it has flagged a total of 612 hijacked and missing vehicles across the country in the past month.
In a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, it was noted that the vehicles were identified following the implementation of the Electronic Central Motor Registry (E-CMR).
He added that Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has ordered an immediate investigation to dismantle the syndicate behind these vehicle hijackings.
During a news conference in Abuja, Adejobi revealed that the first batch of seven stolen vehicles reported through the E-CMR platform has been flagged for investigation, with three of them already recovered.
Regarding the success of the E-CMR initiative, the Force Public Relations Officer emphasized that the system is designed to significantly reduce vehicle theft and related crimes. He highlighted that one vehicle, stolen from Abuja, was traced to Ilorin, Kwara State, and was returned to its rightful owner last weekend.
