Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the implementation of heightened security measures nationwide to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for the celebration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day.

In a statement released on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the IGP ordered the deployment of adequate personnel and tactical resources to maximize security during the celebrations scheduled for Wednesday.

“The police, in collaboration with other security agencies, will strengthen security at designated event venues and major highways across the country to prevent any threats to lives, property, and the festivities,” the statement read.

Additionally, the IGP instructed officers deployed for the operations to maintain a balance of professionalism and firmness in their interactions with the public.

The IGP reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to safeguarding the country, promoting peaceful coexistence, and upholding the rule of law.

“We are dedicated to serving our communities with integrity, compassion, and professionalism. As we move forward, let us reignite our national pride, foster unity, and work together for a brighter future for all Nigerians. As we celebrate our journey to freedom and self-governance, we must also remember our duty to uphold peace and respect for the rule of law,” the statement concluded.
