Amid rumours that he’s planning a return to the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State has moved to quell the rumour saying he will never defect to his former party.

Reports per agencies say Umahi made the remark during 2021 Special Thanksgiving Service at Government House Chapel in Abakaliki on Sunday.

Umahi who restated his position on the rumour making the rounds in the media that he was begging to return to the PDP, insisted that nothing can take him “back to Egypt called PDP.”

He said, “With all these enormous achievements I have made under the All Progressive Congress, APC, what will make me to go back to Egypt, called PDP?

“For that, I pray that God will never forgive the person who initiated the fake news that I have plans to go back to PDP,” he stated.

On the thanksgiving Service, the governor said it was good to give thanks to God as state and country at large.

“It’s good to be grateful to God for His blessings to us as state and the country at large. As state, we have come first in several ways and we give Him the praises.

“Learn how to give good gift to God and it’s by thanksgiving that we can be blessed,” Umahi said.

Umahi was among a handful of governors from Southern Nigeria that were promised the presidential ticket of the APC after defection.

However, recent events have shown that the promise may not materialize.

For now, the National Leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu, appears to be the frontrunner who is hoping to clinch the ticket in 2022.

Tinubu will declare his intention for the party’s presidential ticket in January 2022.

Umahi, who won the governorship seat on the platform of the PDP twice, sees president Muhammadu Buhari as his godfather and repeated his stance on Sunday that rumours of a return to his former party was a fallacy, pointing out that he was comfortable in the APC.
