Illegal stockpiling of explosives responsible for Niger explosion — Police

The Nigerian Police Force has attributed the recent explosion in Niger State to the unauthorized stockpiling of explosives.

The Commissioner of Police in Niger State, CP Shawulu Danmamman, described the dynamite explosion in the Sabon Pegi community, Mashegu Local Government Area, as unfortunate, attributing it to the indiscriminate storage of dynamite in residential areas, allegedly concealed by the community.

CP Danmamman’s remarks align with a statement made earlier by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, on Monday. Alake revealed that preliminary investigations pointed to illegal stockpiling of explosives by Yushua Maikampala, a resident of New Bussa. Maikampala is alleged to have purchased and stored explosives and related accessories in a house in Sabon Pegi.

The explosion, which occurred on Sunday at a mining site in the area, has raised concerns about public safety.

CP Danmamman underscored the importance of public cooperation in preventing such incidents. He urged residents to report suspicious activities or movements to the police, emphasizing that such vigilance is critical to averting similar tragedies in the future.
