President Bola Tinubu on Thursday took another swipe at Atiku Abubakar, the 2027 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), over the consequences of the privatisation exercise carried out during Atiku’s tenure as vice-president under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Tinubu spoke during a thank-you visit by stakeholders and governors from the North-East following his decision to retain Vice-President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

The president alleged that the previous administration failed to pay the pensions of workers affected by the privatisation of government investments in public enterprises.

He, however, said his administration had addressed the issue and that affected pensioners were now receiving their entitlements.

Tinubu also vowed to continue with the reforms introduced by his administration, stressing the need for Nigeria to harness its diversity through unity.

“Someone among my prospective opponents privatized government investment in public entities but forgot to pay the pension. I’m clearing the pensioners now, so clearing the mess they created, but I won’t complain,” President Tinubu said during the visit.

Meanwhile, Paul Ibe, an aide to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, claimed that United States President Donald Trump had been made aware of court documents concerning allegations about Tinubu’s past legal records in the US.

It was earlier reported that Von Batten-Montague-York L.C., a Washington-based lobbying firm, had begun circulating United States Department of Justice records linked to a decades-old civil forfeiture case involving Tinubu to officials of the Trump administration and members of Congress.

The firm said the documents were being shared with administration officials, lawmakers and senior congressional aides to draw attention to allegations contained in filings made by US authorities during investigations conducted in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

In a post on his 𝕏 account on Wednesday, Ibe alleged that documents relating to a US Department of Justice case involving alleged heroin trafficking and the forfeiture of $460,000 had been brought to Trump’s attention through the lobbying firm.
