Bello El-Rufai, the eldest son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed his displeasure over the ongoing rift between his father and the current Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani. He stated that he is not in a position to mediate or reconcile the two leaders.

Bello, who represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, also remarked that it is not inherently wrong for Governor Sani’s administration to investigate his father’s tenure. However, he emphasized that such investigations should be conducted with genuine intent and not as a means to humiliate anyone due to personal animosity.

Speaking on a BBC Hausa programme, Bello admitted he felt unhappy witnessing the discord between his father and Governor Sani, given the significance both individuals hold in his life.

“It is not a bad thing to investigate but it should be done with clear intention and not to humiliate anyone or because someone has offended you. But if you are doing it for selfish reasons, Allah will judge. Allah will forgive your frailties, but will not overlook the harm you inflict on someone,” he said.

Bello also attributed the fallout to inevitable vicissitudes of life, noting that “marriages sometimes break, friends can cut ties. But it is important to maintain and preserve the ties, no matter what “.

Although he claimed not to be aware of the cause of the fallout between his father and Governor Sani, Bello however doubted if the duo harboured any grudges against each other.

“None of them told me anything about the rift. I only got to understand that things are no longer as before, the issue was only being overly exaggerated ”

“It’s unsettling, I wouldn’t love to see my enemies picking a fight with each other. I love peace.”

For those asking him to settle the rift, he said, “It is not my job. Mine is to focus on delivering on my mandate to the good people of Kaduna North. I love peace and fidelity. But for me, if I were to join issues with anyone, I’d rather approach it not publicly.

“For me, politically speaking, Mallam Nasiru has no equal. He is only concentrating on his work. He’s a father, he’s my father. It is surprising that some people are waiting for me to say something about Governor Uba.”
