The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has stated that he does not have a preferred aspirant ahead of the 2027 party primaries, pledging not to influence the process that will produce candidates for elective offices.
Sani made this known on Tuesday while breaking the Ramadan fast with members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly in Kaduna.
He advised individuals seeking elective positions to mobilise support from party members instead of depending on political godfathers.
“My advice to every aspirant who is seeking any office is to get the support of party members. I have no anointed candidates in the coming primaries that will take place between April and May this year. I will abide by what the people decide,” he said.
He emphasised that the primaries must be conducted in a transparent and credible manner to promote unity within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor reaffirmed that he would not interfere in the emergence of flag bearers of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
“I will not interfere with the primaries or the selection process. Whoever emerges as the choice of the people will have my full support,” the governor added.
However, he clarified that his only preferred candidate is Bola Tinubu, whom he pledged to support for re-election in 2027.
Sani urged party members to unite and work collectively toward the success of the APC at all levels. He also encouraged aspirants who may not succeed in the primaries to avoid actions that could undermine the party.
“At one point, I was shortchanged during the APC congress under the previous administration, and most of my supporters were prevented from clinching party positions.
“At that time, some people wanted me to work against the party. I told them I would not work against the house that I helped to build. As God would have it, I am the governor today,” Sani recalled.
He warned that opposition parties might attempt to take advantage of internal disagreements, particularly after the primaries, to weaken the APC.
“The opposition will try to instigate some members, especially after the primaries, because our party is the only party that is still standing. We should resist this temptation. The party belongs to all of us,” he said.
The governor further alleged that opposition parties would likely exploit Nigeria’s security challenges as a campaign strategy against the APC in 2027. He maintained that the security situation in Kaduna State has improved since he assumed office in 2023.
Sani revealed that his administration has reopened 535 schools and 85 health facilities that were previously closed due to insecurity. He also disclosed that work is ongoing on the 35-kilometre Bagoma–Gagumi Road, which connects 62 farming communities in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, and that a contract has been awarded for the Mando–Birnin Gwari Road project.
