The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, will today (Monday) launch the first online portal for passport application in Abuja.
During a demonstration session on Friday alongside the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Caroline Adepoju, he revealed that an online portal for passport applications has been introduced, catering to both international and Nigerian applicants.
Back in December, the minister had announced the Federal Government’s commitment to achieving a fully automated passport application system in the country. At that time, he mentioned that the automated application system was nearly complete, reaching a 99 percent status. The process was designed to involve the uploading of passport photos and supporting documents.
Dr. Tunji specified that Nigerian applicants opting for 32-page passports with a five-year validity period would be charged N25,000, while those seeking 64-page passports with a 10-year validity period would pay N70,000.
For foreign applicants desiring passports with a five-year validity and 32 pages, the fee is set at $130, while those preferring passports with a 10-year validity and 64 pages would pay $230.
Interested individuals are required to submit their applications through the website https://passport.immigration.gov.ng.
Prominent figures in attendance at the event comprised Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission; Stephen Matete, representing the International Organisation for Migration; Joe Abah, the Country Manager of Development Alternatives Incorporated; Tijjani Musa, Founder of Kwandala Foundation, and David Afolayan, Co-founder of Technext.
