The impeached former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has filed a lawsuit at the Lagos High Court seeking his immediate reinstatement.
Obasa, who was removed from office on January 13, 2025, is contesting the legality of his impeachment.
In his legal filing, he is requesting an order to nullify his removal and restore him as Speaker. The lawsuit, filed on Thursday, names the current Speaker, Lasbat Mojisola Meranda, and the Lagos State House of Assembly as defendants.
Obasa argues that the plenary session on January 13, during which he was impeached, was not properly convened, thereby making the proceedings unconstitutional.
The court documents highlight constitutional provisions and the Assembly’s standing orders, asserting that the impeachment process violated legal procedures. Obasa claims that lawmakers met during a recess without formally reconvening, invalidating the decision.
The case has not yet been assigned to a judge, and no hearing date has been scheduled.
