The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has extended its congratulations to the Nigerian people on the country’s 64th Independence anniversary.

In a statement on Monday, NLC President Joe Ajaero acknowledged the struggles of ordinary Nigerians who have endured broken promises, exploitation, and corruption by the government. He urged them not to lose hope in their nation.

His statement read: “On the occasion of Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary, we congratulate all Nigerians, especially workers, for their sacrifice, resilience, and strong spirit in the face of repeated betrayals by political leaders over the years.

“We encourage downtrodden Nigerians, who carry the weight of these broken promises and exploitation, not to give up hope in their country.

“Given that their sacrifices have often been taken for granted, we urge them to protest against injustices and the erosion of democratic values within the bounds of the law. It is clear that the political elite will not change unless compelled to do so.

“At the same time, we caution the political elite, whose actions undermine democracy, that the days of circumventing democratic principles cannot continue as business as usual.

“The consequences of their past actions have led us to this point. It is time for a change. Let this be the start of a new path forward,” Ajaero concluded.
