The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has launched the online pre-registration of voters, signaling the beginning of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a post on X, the commission urged eligible Nigerians to commence their registration via the www.cvr.inecnigeria.org portal.
The pre-registration process allows prospective voters to schedule a convenient date and time to complete their registration in person.
Eligible Nigerians, particularly first-time voters, will be able to provide personal details such as their full name, date of birth, residential address, and preferred polling unit.
Applicants can also use the online portal to apply for changes in voting location, replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or corrections to their personal information.
“In-person registration starts August 25, 2025, at all its 37 state offices and 774 local government area (LGA) offices nearest to you,” INEC said.
INEC explained that physical registration will gradually extend to additional designated centres nationwide, depending on the progress of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), security conditions, and other factors affecting the safety of its staff and materials.
The Commission further clarified that the CVR exercise is open to Nigerians aged 18 and above while cautioning against multiple registrations, warning that offenders will face legal consequences.
INEC urged qualified citizens to take advantage of the exercise, emphasising that voter registration is fundamental to ensuring inclusive participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.
The CVR will continue for several months before INEC releases a preliminary register of voters for public review, ahead of the final list of eligible participants in the 2027 elections.
