INEC exempt Doguwa’s name from Reps-elect list after murder allegations

Ado Doguwa, the majority leader of the House of Representatives, has been dropped from the list of elected House of Representatives members by the Independent National Election Commission.

It will be recalled that on February 25, Doguwa, an APC member, was declared the victor of the election in the Doguwa/Tudunwada constituency by INEC.

He received 39,732 votes, defeating Yushau Salisu Abdullahi, a candidate for the New Nigeria People’s Party, who received 34,798 votes.

According to reports, Doguwa was detained for his suspected role in the murder of many people and the burning of the New Nigeria People’s Party secretariat during the just completed general election.

A Kano chief magistrates’ court remanded Doguwa in prison custody on Wednesday.

The PUNCH verified that Doguwa’s name was not on the list of elected members made public by INEC.

The election result for Doguwa was described by INEC as a “declaration made under duress”.
