INEC gives deadline for submission of names in Ondo guber election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set May 20, 2024, as the deadline for political parties vying in the upcoming Ondo State governorship election to submit the names of their candidates.

Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the commission, made this announcement during a meeting with chairpersons and other leaders of political parties at the INEC headquarters in Abuja on Monday.

He emphasized that parties must conclude and present the names of their candidates before May 20, which marks the closure of the portal for candidate submissions for the forthcoming Ondo governorship election.

This meeting marks the second quarterly gathering for the year 2024, occurring just four months prior to the upcoming governorship election in Edo State scheduled for September. INEC has already released its final list of candidates and their running mates for the election.

Among the party chairpersons present at the meeting were the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, as well as representatives from the Labour Party and the Social Democratic Party.

Yakubu also urged political parties to strictly adhere to all electoral guidelines for the exercise.
