The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the personal details of candidates contesting in the 2025 Anambra State governorship election.
This development follows the conclusion of primary elections by 16 political parties and the timely upload of candidates’ nomination forms to the Commission’s dedicated portal, which automatically closed at 6 p.m. on May 12, 2025.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Saturday by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, titled “Publication of Personal Particulars of Candidates for the 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election.”
The Anambra governorship election is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
The statement read:
“Following the conclusion of party primaries, 16 political parties successfully uploaded their candidates’ nomination forms for the Anambra State governorship election by the deadline of 6 p.m. on Monday May 12, 2025, when the dedicated portal automatically shut down.
“In accordance with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022, and as listed in item 4 of the election timetable, the Commission has now published the personal particulars of each candidate and their running mate. These include copies of Form EC9, as well as accompanying academic credentials and other submitted documents. These have been displayed at our state headquarters and the 21 local government area offices across Anambra State.”
INEC called on members of the public to review the displayed documents and assess the qualifications of the candidates.
The Commission also encouraged any aspirant who took part in the primaries and has reasonable grounds to believe that a candidate submitted false information to challenge the nomination in a Federal High Court, in line with Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022.
Furthermore, the final list of candidates will be published on June 9, 2025 — at least 150 days before the election — in accordance with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, and as outlined in item 7 of INEC’s official timetable and schedule of activities for the poll.
