The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says a total of 1,565,873 Nigerians have successfully completed voter registration within seven weeks of its ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

The figure, which covers data up to June 26, was recorded during Phase III of the exercise currently being conducted nationwide.

INEC explained that the total comprises both citizens who registered online and those who completed the process physically across various registration centres.

The commission stated that “620,933 citizens who completed their online pre-registration and 944,940 who registered physically.”

It added that the figures are still provisional, as they will undergo verification and data cleaning during the public display period, after which biometric checks will be carried out using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS).

A state-by-state analysis showed Kano leading with 118,207 registrations, followed by Lagos with 78,360 and Delta with 76,395.

INEC also confirmed a temporary suspension of voter registration in Ekiti and Osun States due to recent and upcoming governorship elections, in line with electoral regulations.

The gender breakdown indicated that females made up 821,276 registrants (52.45 per cent), while males accounted for 744,597 (47.55 per cent).

Young Nigerians dominated the exercise, with those aged 18 to 34 representing 1,082,985 registrations, or 69.16 per cent of the total.

Students emerged as the largest occupational group with 384,093 registrations, followed by business owners with 333,539 and farmers/fishers with 273,627.

The commission further disclosed that 18,919 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) also registered during the period.

INEC encouraged eligible citizens who are yet to register to use its online platform or visit designated centres nationwide to complete the process ahead of future elections.
