People with disabilities will be employed as ad hoc employees for the state’s governorship election on July 16th, according to Prof. Abdulganniy Raji, the resident electoral commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission in Osun State.

At a town hall meeting with PLWD senatorial leaders from Osun on Tuesday, Raji addressed in Osogbo.

He claimed that the commission would assign PLWDs that were hired to locations where they could be comfortable.

Raji stated, “We have gotten information about those who are PLWDs, ranging from people with physical disabilities, the albinos, people with hearing impairment, people with visual impairment; we are going to engage all of them as ad hoc staff for this election.“

“We will ensure that we post them to places that will be so comfortable for them. At the end of the day, they will get used to the exercise and we will get to a level where they can even be posted anywhere as we are getting matured as far as the election is concerned.”

Mr. Steven Snook, Country Director of the National Democratic Institute, encouraged INEC to ensure the inclusion and participation of PLWDs at the election in his remarks.

Snook added that the Electoral Act of 2022 made provisions for the PLWDs, making it necessary for INEC to recognize them. Snook was represented at the event by Mrs. Osarodion Edosa.
