The Zamfara State Government has provided operational patrol vehicles to the police to improve their response to distress calls and to enhance patrolling across the state, ensuring a safer environment for residents.
Governor Dauda Lawal, during the handover of the vehicles to the sixteen police divisions, two mobile police force units, and the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), emphasized that the security of lives and property is a top priority in his agenda for rescuing the state.
Captain Bala Mairiga (retired), Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs in Zamfara State, stated that the donation of these patrol vehicles aims to bolster police operations and enable a quicker response to emergency security threats in the state.
“In an effort to solve this insecurity problem, there is a need to empower our security agencies, especially the police and the Governor realized that police are not adequately mobile, they don’t have enough strong vehicles to move around.”
“In an effort to equip the police, the governor succeeded in buying these vehicles.”
While addressing the gathering, Governor Lawal took time to commiserate with the Police and the Nigerian Army whose seven of its personnel, were killed in an ambush by suspected terrorists on Thursday Morning. He assured them of bringing about many reforms that would improve the police and other security agencies efficiency and effectiveness in carrying out their Constitutional duties.
The governor said if governments at all levels want to fight corruption, the first port of call is the judiciary and they can start by improving the welfare of judicial Officers, training and other motivations for them.
“What I am doing right now is to come up with some of reforms that will take care of our police officers, i am discussing with the CP, and once we finalize we will let you know in terms of your welfare, training and so on.”
“We will look at all the offices of our DPOs, all the police stations, we are going to put in the part of our budget to make sure we give you befitting offices, not just offices but other equipment that will make you function effectively.”
Governor Dauda Lawal assured that his administration is committed to addressing the needs of security agents despite the financial constraints currently faced by the state.
In response, the Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State, CP Mohammed Dalijan, affirmed the Nigerian Police’s readiness to safeguard and protect residents against the threats posed by violent armed bandits who are terrorizing innocent citizens.
