Internet fraud suspects allegedly kill 40-year-old man in Ogun

Two alleged internet scammers, sometimes known as “yahoo guys,” killed Abdullahi Azeez, 40, and used him in a ritualistic money-making scheme.

Three months after they are said to have committed the crime, Friday Odeh, 21, and Poso Idowu, 20, were captured at their hideout in Owode-Egba.

This information was released in a statement on Sunday by SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state’s police public relations officer.

On June 9, 2022, Oyeyemi claimed that a victim’s relative reported the person missing to police at the Owode-Egba divisional headquarters.

The PPRO noted that the victim’s family claimed he left his Kobape neighborhood house on June 8, 2022, and hasn’t been back since.

He said, “Upon the report, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, directed the anti-kidnapping unit of the state Criminal Investigation Department to take over the investigation and unravel the mystery behind the sudden disappearance of the man.

“In compliance with the CP’s directive, the SP Taiwo Opadiran-led team subsequently embarked on a technical and intelligence based investigation which led them to the hideout of Friday Abinya Odeh, on the September 22, 2022, where the Airtel sim card of the victim was recovered.

“His arrest led to the apprehension of his accomplice, Poso Idowu.

“On interrogation, the suspects confessed that they kidnapped the victim on the June 8, 2022, at Kobape area, at about 7:30pm, from where they forcefully took him to the bush, killed him and butchered his body to pieces.

“They confessed further that it was one herbalist simply identified as Arab money who they claimed to have contacted on Facebook that prescribed the ritual for them.

“All efforts to recover the remains of the victim proved abortive as the suspects claimed to have disposed it.”

Oyeyemi claimed that the police commissioner had ordered that the suspects be brought to court as soon as the investigation was finished.
