The International Press Centre (IPC) will report its findings from its ongoing media monitoring of the coverage of the general elections in 2023 on Tuesday.
In a statement issued by its Executive Director, Lanre Arogundade, the press centre stated that it will hold a roundtable stakeholders’ event to discuss its findings.
IPC is carrying out media monitoring as part of an EU-funded project titled “Strengthening the media for fair, accurate, ethical, and inclusive coverage of Nigeria’s electoral processes and elections.”
The findings that will be discussed at the stakeholders’ meeting will pertain to media monitoring in October and November 2022.
The IPC also added that there would also be presentation of the revised Nigerian Media Code of Election Coverage at the event.
The executive director also stated that “in addition to promoting democratic elections, the analysis of the media monitoring report of the 2023 elections is pivotal in determining the extent to which the elections can be said to be inclusive.
“This is why IPC will also present a performance scorecard by the monitored media based on their promotion of inclusive issues in their coverage and reportage of the electoral processes and elections particularly in line with the stipulations of the Media Code of Election Coverage.”
