A reported Iranian attack on an oil port in the UAE is a “really unfortunate development”, says Hossam Zaki, assistant secretary general of the League of Arab States, who has also served multiple postings in the Egyptian foreign ministry according to BBC.

“What Iran is doing is really jeopardising the really fragile ceasefire that we have,” he tells BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.

Zaki says that while the coalition of Arab states is “not necessarily part of the ongoing talks” between the US and Iran, being mediated by Pakistan, it is seeking “an outcome that would ensure the safety… of all ships going through the Strait of Hormuz”.
