The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF)reported that 2,360 children lost their lives in Israel’s retaliatory actions in the Gaza Strip following the October 7 attacks by Hamas on southern Israel.
The aid organization, highlighting the ongoing intense attacks, has reported that 5,364 children have sustained injuries.
Since the unexpected Hamas assaults on October 7, Israel’s military has been conducting airstrikes on targets within the Gaza Strip and preparing for a ground operation in this sealed-off coastal region.
“The situation in the Gaza Strip is a growing stain on our collective conscience. The rate of death and injuries of children is simply staggering,” said “Adele Khodr, the Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa at UNICEF.
Stating that the Gaza Strip is grappling with a severe lack of water, which has significant implications for its child population, constituting roughly 50% of the total inhabitants.
UNICEF appealed to all parties involved to come to a ceasefire agreement, facilitate humanitarian access, and release all hostages.
