It’s Official! UNILAG gets first female Vice Chancellor in 60-year existence
The Governing Council, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, on Friday appointed, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola as the first female Vice Chancellor for the 60-year-old institution.
NewsClick Nigeria reports that the 13th Vice Chancellor is expected to take over from Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, whose tenure will end on November 11, 2022.
The new VC would assume office formally after the exist of Prof. Ogundipe.
Ogunsola beat 10 professors to emerged the 13th vice chancellor and first female helmsman of the university.
She was Deputy Vice Chancellor (Development and Services) for two tenure under the outgoing VC.
Ogunsola, 64, was also the former Provost. She is also an alumnus of UNILAG.
Prof. Ogunsola was appointed acting Vice Chancellor by council during the face-off between the then governing council chairman, Dr Wale Babalakin and the outgoing VC, Prof Ogundipe.
The Selection Committee of Governing Council and Senate interviewed the shortlisted professors on Friday.
After the interview, the entire council under the chairmanship of Prince Lanre Tejuoso met to ratify Prof. Ogunsola’s appointment.
