Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has chastised former Rivers State Governor Celestine Omehia and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Secondus, over their recent remarks during the commissioning of projects in Rivers State.

Wike, addressing at the Ahoada East and Ahoada West PDP end-of-year thanksgiving in Ochigba, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State on Thursday, chastised Omehia for doubting his services to the state as FCT Minister.

He also disregarded Secondus’ remarks, accusing him of hypocrisy and claiming that Secondus had attempted to install his cousin as governor of Rivers State.

Wike responded to Omehia’s statements at the project launch, saying, “I overheard one, Celestine Omehia, saying they should ask me what I have done for Rivers State as Minister. Allow me to clarify: I am the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, not Rivers State.

“When I was Minister of Education, I established a Faculty of Law at the University of Port Harcourt, awarded grants to Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, and rebuilt Federal Government College in Port Harcourt, among other initiatives. These are actual things he should concentrate on, not baseless accusations.”

Wike also hit back against Secondus, who allegedly called him a “enemy of the state.”

He accused Secondus of conspiring against Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s rise and questioned his newly formed relationship with the governor.

“Secondus wanted his cousin, Tele Ikuru, to become governor. He was anti-Fubara. Today, he professes to be the governor’s buddy while describing me as an enemy. “The records are clear; I removed Secondus as PDP chairman due to his actions,” Wike stated.

Wike emphasised the political appointments gained for Rivers State under President Bola Tinubu’s government, declaring, “There is no governor in Rivers’ history who has garnered more political appointments than me. By the generosity of Mr. President, Rivers State has the most appointees in Tinubu’s administration.”

Wike stated that most finished projects, including the Ring Road, were launched during his tenure as governor.

“I awarded and paid for 50% of the projects being commissioned today. “The goal was to ensure continuity, but I’m disappointed to see some projects cancelled,” Wike said.

The event’s host, Prince Chibudum Nwuche, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, praised Wike for his services to Rivers State and Abuja.

“Wike has demonstrated that his success in Rivers was no fluke. “Abuja is now being transformed into a world-class city under his leadership,” Nwuche stated.
