Jigawa canoe mishap: Two more missing bodies recovered

The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of two additional bodies from the recent canoe accident that left five passengers missing.

According to earlier reports, the mishap resulted in four deaths, with seven individuals rescued and five initially unaccounted for.

The tragedy occurred when a canoe transporting seventeen passengers from Digawa Village in Jahun Local Government Area to Zangon Maje Town in Taura LGA overturned.

In a statement signed by the Spokesman of the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, more bodies were said to have been recovered two days after the incident.

According to the statement, “The bodies of two more victims were recovered and were confirmed dead by a medical doctor.”

Efforts are still ongoing to recover the remaining victims.

The State Commissioner of Police consoled the families of the victims and also warned against overloading canoes to avoid future occurrences.
