A coalition meeting involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and others was disrupted by delegates from Jigawa State.
The meeting, held on Sunday at the Abuja Continental Hotel, was organised by the National Political Consultative Group (North) as part of efforts to build a northern coalition.
Tensions arose when a disagreement emerged over Jigawa State’s representation. The disturbance occurred after Babachir Lawal, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, named a delegate to speak on behalf of the state.
However, Jigawa delegates strongly objected to the nomination, stormed the stage, and prevented the chosen representative from speaking. They insisted they would not be represented by someone they had not agreed upon.
The disruption halted proceedings briefly before calm was restored following appeals from other attendees. A compromise was reached with the selection of Mustapha Lamido—son of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido—and another delegate to represent Jigawa State.
