As floods wreak havoc on portions of the state, the Jigawa State Government has reported the deaths of 50 people and the displacement of several others.
The flood also wrecked thousands of homes in the state, according to Sani Yusuf, executive secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, who revealed this while addressing newsmen in Dutse.
Yusuf claimed that the predicament had compelled numerous Jigawa citizens to seek refuge in various locations, including governmental structures.
According to information obtained, the state administration housed numerous displaced people in 11 temporary camps.
Some of the victims were from the community of Balangu, where no fewer than 237 homes were demolished and flooded by water, killing four people.
“We have so many displaced persons in about 11 temporary camps. In Balangu alone, 237 houses have been damaged and the occupants are now living in a temporary camp,” Yusuf said.
“Four people also died in that same village, after the six in Kafin Hausa. So, when you go around the state, we lost about 50 people to the flood now. Even yesterday (Saturday), seven people from the same family died.”
