Jigawa Gov approves N70,000 as new minimum wage for civil servants

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has approved a new minimum wage of N70,000 for civil servants.

He announced this decision at the Jigawa State Government House in Dutse following the presentation of a report from the committee on minimum wage.

The governor highlighted the importance of fair compensation, affirming the commitment to adequately reward the state’s workforce for their dedication and service.

“After receiving the report by the committee on minimum wage, we have resolved to pay our workers N70,000 as the new minimum wage,” he said.

He further highlighted the government’s commitment to the well-being of its civil servants, noting that the decision was made after careful consideration of the economic realities and the financial capacity of the state.

“We understand the rising cost of living, and we believe this increment will go a long way in alleviating the financial burden on our workers,” the governor added.

The announcement has been warmly received by civil servants in Jigawa State, who had been eagerly awaiting news of the wage increase.

Governor Namadi assured the public that the new wage structure would be implemented promptly, with measures in place to ensure a smooth transition.

The committee on minimum wage, which was tasked with reviewing the state’s salary structure, commended the governor for his swift response. Sources indicate that the committee’s report considered several factors, including inflation and the importance of maintaining a motivated workforce.

This development aligns with a broader trend as states nationwide address wage adjustments amid rising inflation and growing demands for improved living standards for workers.

Earlier this year, President Bola Tinubu approved N70,000 as the minimum wage for workers across the country.
