Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State emphasised the judiciary’s crucial role in the government’s ongoing battle against insecurity, asserting that delays in prosecution embolden criminal elements.
Speaking at the swearing-in of State High Court Judge Justice Jafaaru Zubairu at the Council Chamber of Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, the Governor stressed that, for the government to effectively counter criminal elements in Kaduna State, prosecution agencies and the judiciary must prioritise security and ensure there are no undue delays in prosecuting suspected terrorists and bandits.
He pledged to enhance the working environment for judicial personnel, strengthening public confidence in the justice system, improving access to justice for citizens, and facilitating continuing education for judicial officers.
“I am committed to fostering a cooperative working relationship with the judiciary,” the Governor stated, promising to do “all that is necessary to promote and ensure that justice service delivery, and the justice sector as a whole, operates in accordance with the law.”
Governor Sani affirmed that his administration would remain devoted to supporting and fortifying the judiciary to ensure effective and efficient justice administration.
Today, I swore in Mr. Murtala Jaafaru Zubairu as a Judge of the Kaduna State High Court. Previously, Mr. Zubairu served as the Chief Registrar of the High Court of Justice, Kaduna State. His elevation is a well-deserved achievement, and I congratulate him warmly.
Governor Sani further highlighted that “one of our administration’s core priorities is revitalising the Justice Sector to fulfil its role in delivering justice effectively.”
He noted, “An efficient Criminal Justice System is essential for building and sustaining a stable, secure, and democratic society.”
Addressing the newly sworn-in judge, the Governor urged him to carry out his duties impartially, adding that “the oath you have taken today is a commitment to deliver justice without delay.”
“We cause incalculable harm to victims, the accused, witnesses, and the public when justice is delayed.”
Acknowledging that Kaduna State’s judges rank among the best in the country, Governor Sani encouraged them “to remain steadfast and uphold their integrity as the last hope of the common man.”
