Senator Ademola Adeleke, the newly elected governor of Osun State, received the certificate of return on Wednesday from the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Prince Kola Adewusi, the deputy governor-elect, received the certificate before it was given to Adeleke by Prof. Kunle Ajayi, the INEC National Commissioner in charge of Osun, Ogun, and Oyo states.

After Adeleke defeated Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress with 403, 371 votes on Saturday, July 16, and was proclaimed the winner, the presentation took place around 72 hours later.

In his acceptance speech after getting the certificate at a brief ceremony conducted at the Osun INEC headquarters in Osogbo, Adeleke paid tribute to his late older brother, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, by dedicating his election victory to his memory and also to the people of Osun state.

The PUNCH had previously reported that the PDP had won 17 of the state’s 30 local government areas while the APC had taken 13 of them.

Ede North, Ede South, Ifelodun, Boluwaduro, Egbedore, Odo Otin, Osogbo, Ila, Atakumosa West, Olorunda, Ilesa West, Obokun, Oriade, Orolu, Ife North, Irepodun, and Ejigbo LGAs were won by the PDP.

Boripe, Ilesa East, Ayedire, Ifedayo, Ife Central, Ayedaade, Iwo, Olaoluwa, Isokan, Atakumosa East, Irewole, Ife South, and Ife East LGAs were won by the APC.

According to earlier reports, Adeleke and his nephew, David Adeleke, better known as Davido, were seen in a video, celebrating an early lead as the counting began.

Also, there was celebration in the PDP Situation Room as the PDP declared victory in the election even before the official results were made public.
