Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, along with two others, bail in the sum of ₦500 million with two sureties.
According to the judge, the sureties must own landed property in Asokoro, Maitama, or Gwarinpa, and submit their travel documents to the court.
The documents for the properties are to be verified by the deputy chief registrar, and the sureties are required to depose to an affidavit of means.
Malami was also ordered to deposit his travel documents with the court and must not leave the country without court approval. Additionally, he and his sureties must submit two recent passport photographs to the court.
In the meantime, Malami has been remanded in Kuje prison until he fulfills the bail conditions.
Justice Nwite has scheduled February 17 for the commencement of trial on the corruption charges.
The same bail conditions apply to Malami’s son, Abdulaziz Malami, and an employee of Rahamaniyya Properties Limited, Hajia Asabe Bashir.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had filed a 16-count alleged money laundering charge against Malami, his son, and his wife.
