Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja has approved bail for Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in the sum of N300 million, along with two sureties providing like sum.
The sureties are required to possess certificates of occupancy and titles for properties located within the Maitama District.
Emefiele is obligated to surrender all his travel documents to the court’s registrar and is to stay within the Abuja Municipal Council.
Until he fulfills the bail conditions, he is expected to remain at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
Although Emefiele was not present for the Wednesday morning ruling on his bail application, his lawyer, Mr. Mathew Burkaa, explained that it was customary, as he is currently at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
This occurred four months following the approval of his bail by the Federal High Court in Lagos, which was set at the sum of N20 million.
The court adjourned till November 28 for the commencement of trial.
