JUST IN: Court invalidates Edo PDP primary election

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has invalidated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election that resulted in the selection of Asue Ighodalo as its gubernatorial candidate.

The primary, held on February 22, 2024, was annulled because 378 delegates who were supposed to participate were unlawfully excluded by the PDP.

Justice Ekwo invalidated the primary election during his judgment in a lawsuit filed by the disgruntled delegates.

The lawsuit was filed by Kelvin Mohammed acting as a representative.

Justice Ekwo determined that both the Electoral Act 2022 and the PDP Guidelines were breached during the conduct of the primary election at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.
