JUST IN: Court orders FCTA workers to call off strike

The National Industrial Court sitting in Abuja has directed employees under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to halt their ongoing strike.

In a ruling delivered on Tuesday, the presiding judge, Emmanuel Subilim, stated that while the case before the court qualifies as a trade dispute, the workers’ right to engage in industrial action is not without limits.

He explained that once a dispute is formally referred to the National Industrial Court, any strike action already in progress must be suspended until the court reaches a final decision on the matter.

“An order of interlocutory injunction is hereby granted, restraining the claimants and representatives from further embarking on any industrial action against the claimant,” Subilim ruled.

“The order shall remain in force, pending the determination of this suit.”
