The Department of State Services (DSS) has announced that Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria who was previously suspended, is currently in it’s custody.
The DSS shared this information through a statement posted on their official Twitter account on Saturday, June 10, 2023.
The statement read, “The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria is now in its custody for some investigative reasons.
“The public, particularly the media, is enjoined to apply utmost caution in the reportage and narratives concerning this.”
According to a report from PUNCH, President Bola Tinubu took the decision to suspend Godwin Emefiele from his position as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria on Friday night. The suspension was effective immediately. Emefiele was instructed to transfer his responsibilities to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), Adebisi Shonubi, who will act as the interim CBN governor until the investigation and reforms are concluded.
There were unverified reports that emerged late on Friday suggesting that the Department of State Services had apprehended the suspended CBN governor.
According to reports, President Bola Tinubu took the decision to suspend Godwin Emefiele from his position as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria on Friday night. The suspension was effective immediately.
Emefiele was directed to transfer his responsibilities to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), Adebisi Shonubi, who will act as the interim CBN governor until the investigation and reforms are concluded.

However, the spokesman for the DSS, Peter Afunaya, has now confirmed that the suspended CBN governor is now in its custody.
