The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero.
According to the NLC, Ajaero was apprehended at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Monday while en route to the United Kingdom for an official assignment.
Mr. Benson Upah, the NLC’s Head of Information, confirmed the arrest to Channels Television. Ajaero was scheduled to attend the Trade Union Congress conference in London, which begins today.
Upah stated that the union is unaware of Ajaero’s current location, but he had managed to send a message indicating that it was the DSS who arrested him.
This arrest follows about a week after Ajaero responded to a police invitation related to an investigation into terrorism financing.
