Individuals believed to be operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission reportedly conducted a midnight operation at the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure, Ondo State.
At approximately 2 am, students’ lodgings were purportedly invaded. Several students have turned to social media, posting videos and claiming that individuals forcibly entered rooms and detained some students.
Videos being circulated on social platforms depict damaged window frames, suggesting attempts at forced entry.
One social media user named J Brandy wrote, “I thought they said EFCC should not raid at nights again. This hostel (Celebrity Lodge, FUTA ) is right behind mine. When will this endemic? EFCC (officials) moving like thieves at night!”
One of the videos circulating online showed an individual wearing an EFCC jacket.
In November, the Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, issued an order to halt sting operations during nighttime.
This directive came after the arrest of suspected internet fraudsters in Ile-Ife, Osun State, by EFCC operatives, which sparked nationwide outrage.
When contacted regarding the matter on Wednesday, the agency’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, requested our correspondent to call back in 20 minutes.
However, he has not returned calls since the time of this publication.
