An explosion has rocked the Secretariat of the Action People’s Party (APP) in Rivers State.
The incident occurred at the party’s state office along the GRA axis of Port Harcourt in the early hours of Monday.
Reports indicate that a detonated dynamite caused the explosion, with the loud blast heard around 1 a.m.
Although the perpetrators have not been identified, the incident may be linked to the ongoing leadership crisis in the state.
It is believed that political thugs detonated the dynamite in the building, causing extensive damage to windows, doors, the ceiling, and other property, leaving the party’s leadership and members in a state of panic.
This development comes amidst speculations that Governor Siminialayi Fubara plans to move to the APP with his supporters following the alleged hijacking of the People’s Democratic Party in the state by his predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
A member of the party who gave his name simply as Chimene said: “Yes, I’m a member of the APP. I was informed of the attack about 3am today.
“This is politically motivated and there is no two ways about it. They know that the APP is a fast growing political party in the state. We call on the police to investigate this and arrest the culprits. “
