JUST IN: First News editor Olatunji regains freedom

Following approximately two weeks in custody, Mr. Segun Olatunji, the Editor of First News Online Newspaper, has been released by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA).

Under a bridge in Asokoro, he was released to Mr. Iyobosa Uwugiaren, the General Secretary of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, and Mr. Yomi Odunuga, the Deputy Editor (Nation’s Capital) of THE NATION Newspapers.

The security personnel were masked, and the number plates of their vehicles were concealed.

All the necessary documents for his release were signed inside a security vehicle, which was accompanied by heavily armed operatives.

When the NGE sureties inquired about the reason for his arrest, one of the security personnel simply stated that he was detained for “terrorism.”
