JUST IN: Gbajabiamila resigns from reps

Rep Femi Gbajabimila, Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives, has formally resigned from the legislature.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read Gbajabiamila’s letter of resignation on the floor on Wednesday after the former speaker delivered it.

Gbajabiamila is set to be sworn in as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s chief of staff later today at the Presidential Villa.

Following his resignation, Speaker Abbas declared Gbajabiamila’s seat vacant, and a new election will be held.
