On Sunday evening, gunmen set fire to the Oguta High Court, which is located in Imo State’s Oguta Local Government Area.
It was learned that the attackers broke into the facility, which is housed inside the local government headquarters, at 11.30 p.m.
According to an anonymous source, the High Court Judge’s Chamber, the High Court Bailiff’s Office, the Appeal Court Record Office, and the Secretary to the High Court Judge’s Office were all burned down.
The source said, “Magistrate court registry, Appeal court record office, file room, secretary to the high court judge’s office, office of the high court bailiff were burnt while the chamber of high court judge was partly razed. The whole of the block has cracked and no reasonable human being will ever near the facility.”
Ofili Ijioma, the Oguta LGA’s only administrator, stated that security agents had been informed of the arson.
He gave the assurance that the attackers’ identities would be revealed through investigations.
Ten days had passed since Nnaemeka Ugboma, the chief judge of the Ejemekwuru customary court, was assassinated while presiding over a court proceeding.
Henry Okoye, a spokesman for the state’s police, responded to a request for comment by saying that he was still awaiting word from the scene.
