The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has stated that the decision to remove the fuel subsidy in Nigeria was made by the Nigerian government and was not a recommendation from the organization.
Abebe Selassie, the IMF’s African Region Director, made this clarification during a briefing on Friday at the IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings held in Washington, D.C.
“The decision was a domestic one. We don’t have programmes in Nigeria. Our role is limited to regular dialogue, as we have with other nations like Japan or the UK,” he said.
