JUST IN: Keyamo summons heads of aviation agencies over safety issues

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has summoned heads of aviation agencies in the country over recurring safety issues in the industry.

Keyamo is scheduled to convene with the heads of aviation agencies on Monday in Abuja, as stated in a ministry announcement.

The agencies in attendance will include the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), the Federal Airport Authority Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

The minister plans to discuss recent accidents within the sector during the meeting and subsequently provide a press briefing on the outcomes to prevent similar occurrences.

Notably, on Sunday, there was an incident on Flight NUA 0504 departing from the Lagos airport, where some passengers bound for Abuja were mistakenly flown to Asaba airport.

After landing in Asaba, the cabin crew mistakenly informed passengers that they had reached Abuja airport, causing confusion. The airline attributed the diversion of the flight to Asaba to “poor weather.”
