The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has been impeached by members of the Assembly.
A reliable source, who requested anonymity, confirmed that Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, the Deputy Speaker, has been elected as the new Speaker. Additionally, Hon. Fatai Mojeed, the Deputy Chief Whip, has been chosen as the new Deputy Speaker.
The impeachment follows a series of controversies surrounding Obasa, particularly concerning allegations of financial misconduct.
In a brief statement shared with Daily Champion, the source disclosed, “Obasa has been impeached. The Deputy Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, is now the Speaker, and Fatai Mojeed has been elected as Deputy Speaker.”
52-year-old Obasa has been speaker of the Lagos state house of assembly since 2015.
