Speaker Mojisola Meranda is currently leading the plenary session at the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who was earlier present at the assembly complex, is notably absent from Monday’s sitting.
According to reports, Obasa, Meranda, and other lawmakers held a meeting outside the chamber prior to the plenary, which began around 2 p.m.
The meeting was attended by key figures from the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC), including the party’s Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi.
The Lagos State Attorney General, Lawal Pedro, was also present, with the discussions focused on resolving the ongoing leadership crisis within the House.
Obasa arrived at the meeting around 1:30 p.m. but departed after a private discussion with the Attorney General, Ojelabi, and other party stakeholders.
While the resolution of the leadership tussle between Meranda and Obasa remains uncertain, lawmakers at the plenary session have been commending Meranda’s leadership.
Meranda, previously the Deputy Speaker, was appointed Speaker on January 13 by over 30 lawmakers following Obasa’s removal from the position.
