Akin Osuntokun, a former aide to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, was appointed as the new director general of Labour Party’s Presidential candidate Peter Obi’s campaign committee on Tuesday.

Osuntokun succeeded Okupe after Doyin Okupe, the former Director general of the Obi-Datti Campaign Organization, resigned last Tuesday in response to an Abuja Federal High Court decision finding him guilty of breaking the Money Laundering Act.

The Labour Party’s Presidential candidate received the letter personally addressed to him.

According to Emeka Obasi, Peter Obi’s media assistant, the new helmsman to lead the campaign council would be revealed in 48 hours.

But after a crucial party meeting in which Obi, members of the National Working Committee, and a number of Labour Party candidates were present, LP National Chairman Julius Abure named Osuntokun as the new Campaign Director.

As Okupe’s replacement, Abure called the former managing director of the News Agency of Nigeria “worthy and trustworthy.”

After joining the LP in August 2022 after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, Osuntokun was named the party’s South-West leader.
