JUST IN: Ramadan begins as Sulatan Council confirms moon sighting

The President of the (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has announced that the crescent marking the commencement of Ramadan 2026 has been sighted.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Sambo Junaidu, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs of the , the Muslim leader disclosed that credible reports of moon sightings were received from different parts of the country and were thoroughly verified.

The Sultan, who was represented by , confirmed that Muslims nationwide will commence the Ramadan fast on Wednesday, February 18.

“After due verification and authentication of the reports received from across the country, the Sultanate Council has accepted the sighting of the new moon. Consequently, Wednesday, 18th February 2026, marks the first day of Ramadan 1447AH,” the statement reads.
